-Cybersecurity — Protection, Detection & Response

Cyber threats are real. Your defences should be too.

Small businesses are the most common target for cyber attacks — not large corporations. In fact, attackers deliberately go after businesses that have fewer protections in place. CBI Technologies provides practical, layered cybersecurity for Melbourne businesses that want to stay protected without the corporate price tag.

Endpoint Protection

AI-driven threat detection that isolates attacks before they spread.

Email Filtering

Block phishing, spam and malicious attachments before they reach your inbox.

Monitoring

Get alerted the moment your credentials appear where they shouldn’t.

Staff Training

Turn your team from a vulnerability into your strongest line of defence.

Why it matters

The threats facing your business right now.

Cyber criminals don’t only go after large organisations. In fact, small and medium businesses are frequently targeted precisely because attackers know defences are often limited. Below are the most common threats Melbourne businesses face today.

Ransomware

Attackers encrypt your files and demand payment to restore access. Even small businesses have paid thousands to recover.

Phishing Emails

Convincing fake emails trick staff into handing over passwords or clicking links that install malware on your systems.

Dark Web Credential Leaks

Staff login details can end up for sale on the dark web without anyone knowing — until accounts start getting accessed.

Vulnerability Exploits

Unpatched software and outdated systems give attackers a quiet way into your network — often going undetected for weeks.

Email Compromise

Scammers impersonate executives or suppliers to deceive staff into making urgent — and fraudulent — payments.

Invoice Fraud

Intercepted invoices with altered payment details result in funds being transferred directly to criminal accounts.

What we do

Layered protection, built for small business.

Effective cybersecurity isn’t a single product — it’s a combination of tools, processes and training working together. As a result, every service below addresses a different layer of your defence.

Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR)

Traditional antivirus is no longer sufficient on its own. EDR uses AI-driven behaviour monitoring to detect suspicious activity on devices, isolate compromised machines and stop threats from spreading across your network. In addition, every incident is logged so nothing goes unnoticed.

Email Filtering & Protection

Email is the most common entry point for cyber attacks. Advanced filtering blocks phishing attempts, spam and malicious attachments before they reach your inbox. Furthermore, DMARC, DKIM and SPF protocols are configured so your business domain cannot be easily impersonated.

Dark Web Monitoring

Your staff’s login credentials can be compromised and sold online without any visible sign of a breach. Dark web monitoring scans continuously for your business details, and alerts you immediately if anything is found. That way, you can act before an attacker does.

Security Awareness Training

Human error remains the leading cause of successful cyber attacks. Staff training teaches your team how to recognise phishing emails, handle suspicious links and use strong password practices. Consequently, your people become an active part of your security rather than a vulnerability.

Vulnerability Assessments

Attackers actively search for weak points in business systems — outdated software, open ports, misconfigured settings. Vulnerability assessments identify those weak points before criminals do, and provide a clear remediation report so issues are addressed in order of risk.

Backup & Disaster Recovery

Even the best defences are not infallible. Secure, regularly tested backups ensure that if an incident does occur — whether ransomware or hardware failure — your business data can be restored quickly. Moreover, recovery plans are prepared in advance so there’s no scrambling under pressure.

How it works

Protection that starts
with understanding your risk.

Every business has a different risk profile. For that reason, the process starts with an honest assessment — not a generic package pushed at every client.

01 — Assess

We review your current position

First, we take stock of your existing setup — devices, software, email configuration, user access and backups. Based on that review, we identify the gaps that pose the greatest risk to your business specifically.

02 — Protect

We put the right layers in place

Endpoint protection, email filtering, dark web monitoring and staff training are configured and deployed. In addition, multi-factor authentication and backup procedures are set up to close off the most common attack vectors.

03 — Monitor & Respond

We stay on watch

Ongoing monitoring means threats are caught early rather than after the fact. Moreover, if an incident does occur, our team is available to contain it, investigate what happened and restore normal operations as quickly as possible.

Compliance & Frameworks

Aligned to Australian security standards.

Compliance frameworks give your business a clear benchmark to measure against. Furthermore, they provide documented evidence of your security posture — useful for insurers, clients and internal governance.

The eight strategies every Australian business should implement.

Developed by the Australian Cyber Security Centre, the Essential Eight covers application control, patching, restricting macros, MFA, daily backups and more. Together, these measures address the most commonly exploited attack vectors. CBI Technologies helps you implement and maintain each strategy in a way that suits your team and budget.

A maturity model designed specifically for small and medium businesses.

Unlike frameworks built for large enterprises, SMB:1001 is structured around the realities of running a smaller operation. It provides a clear pathway from basic security hygiene through to advanced cyber maturity — so you can improve progressively rather than trying to do everything at once. As your business grows, the framework scales accordingly.

Why CBI Technologies

Practical cybersecurity
advice — not just vendor product sales.

A lot of cybersecurity providers push expensive products first and ask questions later. CBI Technologies takes a different approach — starting with your actual risk and building protection around that.

01

We start with your risk

Before recommending anything, we assess what your business actually faces. As a result, you invest in protection that addresses real gaps — not just the most expensive options on a product sheet.

02

Plain English, always

Cybersecurity is full of jargon. Everything is explained clearly so you understand what’s being protected, why it matters and what to do if something goes wrong.

03

Built for small business

Enterprise-grade security tools aren’t always the right fit for a 10-person team. Instead, we implement solutions that are appropriately sized, maintainable and genuinely used day-to-day.

04

On-site & remote support

Whether an issue needs someone physically present or a remote fix, both options are available. Melbourne’s South-East is our area, so on-site visits are straightforward.

05

Ongoing, not one-off

Cyber threats evolve constantly. Consequently, protection is monitored and reviewed on an ongoing basis — not set up once and forgotten about.

06

Trusted by local businesses

CBI Technologies has supported home and business customers across Melbourne’s South-East for years. Our track record is built on straightforward advice and reliable follow-through.

FAQ

Common questions about our services

We already have antivirus — do we really need more?

Antivirus is a starting point, but it’s no longer enough on its own. Modern attacks — including phishing, ransomware and credential theft — are specifically designed to bypass traditional antivirus software. Effective cybersecurity requires multiple layers: endpoint detection, email filtering, staff training and backup procedures working together. Without that combination, significant gaps remain.

If an incident occurs, the priority is containment — isolating affected systems to prevent further spread. After that, the investigation begins: identifying how the breach occurred, what was accessed and what needs to be restored. Data is recovered from backups where needed, and a post-incident review identifies what should be changed to prevent a repeat. Throughout the process, we keep you informed in plain language.

In most cases, no. Tools such as endpoint protection, email filtering and dark web monitoring run in the background without affecting device performance or workflow. Staff training sessions are kept short and practical. Where patching or configuration work needs to happen, it’s scheduled outside of business hours wherever possible to minimise disruption.

The Essential Eight is a set of security strategies developed by the Australian Cyber Security Centre. While it isn’t mandatory for most small businesses, it’s widely regarded as the baseline standard for cyber resilience in Australia. Moreover, aligning with the Essential Eight provides a clear, documented security posture — which is increasingly required by insurers, clients and industry bodies.

Generally, at least once per quarter is recommended for active businesses. In addition, an assessment should be carried out whenever significant changes are made — such as adding new software, onboarding staff, or moving to a new premises. Regular assessments catch issues early, before they become entry points for attackers.

On-site support covers Melbourne’s South-East, including Rowville, Knox, Dandenong, Casey, Pakenham, Cranbourne, Clyde North, Berwick, Narre Warren, Warragul, Emerald and the Yarra Ranges. In addition, remote support is available for businesses anywhere in Australia. Call us if you’d like to confirm coverage for your area.
